“There is a sowing season and a reaping season and they are not the same season.”—Bob Proctor
Most of us know that true success and fulfillment take time. A lot of hard work and sacrifice may happen before you see the fruits of your labor. I encourage you to think of that period of time when you invest your time, energy and talents into a process before you can see the results, as “sowing seeds.”
This is almost in direct contrast to the message of instant gratification so popular in today’s world. It seems in every direction you turn, you find a culture deeply obsessed with the desire to get what they want, when they want it. It’s as if the concept of waiting has become almost foreign to more recent generations. Most people have very little patience, which can lead to adopting a mindset that if something is meant to happen, it will happen quickly. If success isn’t achieved immediately, people become discouraged and give up. The reality in most cases is that enough seeds may not have been sown, or the seeds have not matured enough to be harvested.
The compound effect states that simple, small and consistent steps taken over time will create success. Can you think of some areas in your life when you have reaped what you have sown? Are there times when you have sown and are still waiting for the harvest to come in? It may be that the results you are looking for are just around the corner—so keep at it!
